Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Ressources is sharing that on November 30, 2023, 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline, a national three-digit suicide prevention and crisis number, will be implemented in Canada. 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline is funded by the Government of Canada.

9-8-8 will be delivered by a network of partner crisis and distress lines across Canada, which the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) will coordinate. The service will be delivered by trained crisis responders using evidence and best practices and informed by ongoing engagement with organizations representing populations most affected by suicide. Responders will be trained to support callers and texters facing a suicide-related crisis or in emotional distress.
