Today, Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary
Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages is reminding residents that the
deadline to apply for the $500 one-time topup to the Canada Housing Benefit is quickly
approaching.
The benefit, which provides relief to lowincome renters launched on December 12, 2022. Since then, over 600,000 Canadians have already applied to the benefit. However,
time is running out for eligible individuals and families to submit their applications, as the
March 31 deadline fast approaches.
To be eligible, applicants must have an adjusted net income in 2021 of $35,000 or less for families, or $20,000 or less for individuals, and pay at least 30% of their adjusted family net income towards rent in the 2022 calendar year.
Eligible applicants can easily apply through their Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) My
