MARKSTAY-WARREN - Today, Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, announced an investment of $612,000 to help the Municipality of Markstay-Warren, 40 km east of Sudbury, expand and upgrade its infrastructure and provide necessary services to existing businesses in the community. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.
The FedNor funding, provided through the federal government’s Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP), will enable the Municipality of Markstay-Warren to run the existing water main underground approximately 600 meters along Kukagami Lake Road from Highway 17 to its anchor tenant and provide a local business with access to a reliable water source that is needed for its future expansion plans.
The new water infrastructure would assist the municipality's goal to diversify the Kukagami Lake Road area and for future industrial development as outlined in their economic development strategic plan. Three new jobs will be created and an additional eight maintained as a result of the expansion project.
