NICKEL BELT – GREATER SUDBURY – From roads and community centres to public transit and water and wastewater systems – investments in infrastructure build strong and healthy communities.

Marc G. Serré, MP for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages is further highlight important Federal funding investments made by the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities.

The Government of Canada recently invested more than $190.2 million in 144 projects across Ontario, through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. This translates to over $3.5 million in support of 3 Nickel Belt communities:

• $115,146 for the Municipality of Killarney to support the replacement of approximately 40 filet membranes, the analyzer at the water intake and two chemical feed boards. This will increase the reliability an efficiency of the water treatment infrastructure.
• $1,429,750 for the Municipality of Gogama to support the removal and replacement of over 1.4 kilometers of water pipes, installation of water valves, and the replacement of the back-up generator at the water treatment plant. This will increase the capacity and reliability of the system.
• $1,993,200 for the Municipality of West Nipissing for the installation of approximately 2,100 metres of transmission pipes in West Nipissing, to extend a second watermain trunk from the Sturgeon Falls water plant which will complete a watermain trunk loop and increase capacity of the transmission infrastructure.

• Projects must meet federal requirements under the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) and/or Indigenous consultation requirements before construction starts (which includes site preparation and vegetation removal).
• Under the Investing in Canada Plan, the federal government is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.
• Over the last six years, the Government of Canada has invested over $18.6 billion toward more than 4,180 infrastructure projects across Ontario.
• During that period, over $44 billion has been invested in communities by Infrastructure Canada across the country to support world-class infrastructure projects, including over $4.4 billion for community drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects
