MP Serré expresses confidence in Budget 2022
April 8, 2022

NICKEL BELT – GREATER SUDBURY – Budget 2022 addresses many of the top-of-mind priorities shared directly with Nickel Belt MP Marc G. Serré during his engagement with constituents and stakeholders in the riding. MP Serré commends the concrete solutions offered to tackle affordability, a growing concern for many, and investments in critical areas in a measured, modest and responsible way.

Budget 2022 builds upon the longstanding investments in people, families, infrastructure, green technology, and economic growth that has supported Canada through the pandemic and prior. The Federal government is redoubling its efforts to deliver direct support with key funding such as:

Some industries such as green technology and mining- both dominant in the local area- showed proof of great resilience during the pandemic and are a catalyst for economic growth. Recognizing this Budget 2022 has earmarked funds to keep the increased momentum. The funds can bolster Nickel Belt’s ability to further grow manufacturing and innovation capacity:

“Budget 2022 is about putting the best interest of people first and simultaneously leveraging our ability to grow economically. In Budget 2022 consultations, we asked Canadians how they wanted to see themselves supported- and I think many will find a renewed sense of optimism with this sustainable and tailored path forward,” said Serré.

MP Serré was also encouraged to see a large focus on Indigenous priorities and reconciliation. Some of these investments include:

“Approximately eight out of every ten dollars invested to support Canadians and fight COVID-19 has come from the federal government. Investing in people and the things that matter to them is essential and one that I will continue to advocate for. Please know, that fiscal responsibility has been weaved into this plan. The federal government is winding down emergency COVID-19 expenditures and we are implementing an economic trajectory path that ensures federal debt remains on a downward track as a share of the economy,” said Serré.

“I encourage Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury residents to peruse the Budget 2022 document and find out how it applies to them. As always, I remain open and engaged with constituents, businesses, stakeholders, Chambers of Commerce and trade union leaders and others throughout the riding to bring their feedback to Ottawa,” he concluded.
