MP Serré statement: Delivering for Canadians Now, A Supply and Confidence Agreement
March 22, 2022

Today, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced an agreement reached by the Liberal Party of Canada and the New Democratic Party in Parliament, Delivering for Canadians Now, A Supply and Confidence Agreement.

This is not a merger or a coalition, it is exactly as it is stated, a “Supply and Confidence Agreement”.

The world has been immersed in uncertainty, fear, and struggles. The last 5 out of 7 federally formed governments were a minority.  The House of Commons prior to the 2021 election was toxic at times with political affiliations taking precedence over the people which they were elected to represent.

Post election 2021, the electorate spoke loud and clear, they want a government that will work across party lines and put the best interest of all Canadians at the forefront.

Let me be clear, each party involved in this agreement are very much intact, however, this agreement has been formed to deliver similar priorities and objectives in a cooperative and cohesive manor. Liberals have always advanced ambitious platforms, based on Liberal principals and those principals remain in place. As parties we have very individual ideals, however, we are choosing to align our efforts on issues that will have a positive impact on those who put their trust in their elected officials to work together and get the job done.

In light of the instability of the last two years, Canadians need to feel renewed confidence in their elected government to build the economy and to mitigate the ever-growing fears and effects of affordability woes. This agreement will enable the government to move forward on programs that are top of mind for Canadians and to prioritize the following actions, while continuing to work on other possible shared priorities.

These echo the priorities brought forward locally in my interactions with Nickel Belt families, residents, businesses, stakeholders, trade unions, community leaders and municipal governments.

The arrangement lasts until Parliament rises in June 2025, allowing four budgets to be presented by the government during this time.

I have and continue to pledge my unequivocal dedication to the people of Nickel Belt - Greater Sudbury and am committed to working hard to advocate for growth, prosperity, confidence, and peace of mind. Thank you to the many people I’ve engaged with and who have clearly stated their desire to see collaborative work with fellow MPs and all political parties at the Federal and Provincial level. Providing an affordable, greener and more prosperous Canada for future generations should not be a partisan issue.

My role is not to throw mud or to play political games, it is to work collaboratively with all Members of the House of Commons to move forward the priorities that matter most to Canadians.

I look forward to the positive synergies and outcomes that are sure to be realized.
