NICKEL BELT – GREATER SUDBURY –Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people face increased rates of violence and discrimination. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for victims seeking help and the frontline organizations that support them.
Call for proposals are being accepted until March 10th, 2022, to increase the capacity of Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ organizations in Canada to provide Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention services and supports to address the disproportionate rates of GBV in these communities.
Activities that build capacity are those that increase an organization's ability to reach its goals. They include working to improve skills, information, collaboration, and tools. They also often aim to improve an organization's sustainability.
For these projects, the maximum amount is up to $400,000 in total for local organizations. Their activities cover at least one community, such as a town, city, or regional municipality. Projects should aim to start no earlier than summer 2022 and must end by March 31, 2026.

“In order to make our community more inclusive we must ensure the safety and security of all and support victims of GBV. I’m proud that our Government is making funds accessible to help organizations develop missions and mandates, establish bylaws and policies and develop and implement strategic plans that help end and mitigate GBV. Encouraging all eligible organisations to apply for funds without delay to strengthen Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury” – Marc G. Serré, MP Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages
