The Constituency office of Marc G. Serré Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Constituency Assistant/Communications Officer for the Val Caron Constituency office (maternity leave). Duties:
- Work closely with primary constituency office as well as the Parliament Hill office to ensure shared priorities and consistent messaging
- Keeping up to date on local media issues and events
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends as required
- Attend and document community events with Member and take photos when require
- Responsible for the Member’s events strategy and execution
- Write new releases, letters to the editor, media advisories and other media statements while maintaining strong relationships with local media
- Monitor and manage members presence on social media, website content and briefings for the constituency office
- Source advertising opportunities, organize office advertisements, and work collaboratively with the Parliamentary Assistant to adhere to the advertising budget and schedule
- Creation and execution of a communication and social media plan which includes a media engagement plan to target key stakeholders, enhance MP visibility and increase public engagement
- Create and develop monthly digital newsletter and produce print products for distribution
- Provide written content for speeches, House of Commons declarations, requested support letters and other events MP participates in
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all staff members
- Managing casework including outreach on all matters related to the Federal Government
- Manage and respond to queries from the public in person, by phone and email and take appropriate action to resolve while ensuring constituent confidentiality
- General office administration and telephone reception while maintaining office filing system
- Managing, tracking and preparing correspondence and database management
Qualifications:
- Fluently Bilingual in both French and English oral and written communication
- Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high stress environment
- Previous office experience and working with the public is essential
- Previous media relations experience an asset
- Knowledge of government depts and community organizations and ability to effectively liaise
- Proficiency with Publisher, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Facebook, Twitter and other social media
- Post-secondary education in business, public relations, communications or similar specialty is an asset
