Remembrance Day Public Service Announcement from MP Serré
November 9, 2021

Where will you be on November 11th? Remembrance Day is an important occasion to thank Veterans for their many sacrifices and honour our serving Canadian Armed Forces members.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the symbolic poppy that we wear so proudly from the last Friday in October until Remembrance Day. Royal Canadian Legion Branch members have been busy dropping off poppy boxes across the country. There are more than 1,350 Branches located in communities across Canada taking part in the Poppy fundraiser.

Legions play an integral role year-round in helping Veterans and their families. Built with a strong team of volunteers, they also support seniors, youth programs, and raise funds for the vulnerable.  Nickel Belt counts 6 Royal Canadian Legion Branches. As is customary, MP Serré will be visiting multiple Branches on November 11th.

“I strongly commend our Legions for their outstanding role in our communities and for hosting their memorable annual Remembrance Day ceremonies. This year I will be attending ceremonies at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 503 In Onaping Falls and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 553 in Chelmsford. I am always moved and deeply impressed with the special attention to detail, the personal stories and strong community involvement from residents of all ages at these events. The act of coming together and having a moment of silence is powerful. We should not limit our support towards Veterans to one day a year but should strive to show our gratitude all year through. I encourage you to reach out to a local Branch and find out if you can safely attend an event or offer a donation if possible. Thank you to all our local heroes, past and present, for their service to this country,” said Serré. “Thank you to all residents who got vaccinated and continue to follow public health protocols. These efforts have allowed us to return to a sense of normalcy regarding important public events like Remembrance Day ceremonies,” he concluded.
