MESSAGE FROM MARC G. SERRÉ YOUR NICKEL BELT MP

July was a busy month in Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury with historic funding announcement benefitting economic development and growth right here at home! In other positive news Public Health Sudbury and District reported that over 80% of eligible individuals in the region have received 1 dose and over 70% are fully vaccinated. We should be very proud of those statistics and keep aiming to strive even higher by fighting misinformation and reaching out to those who may need help booking a vaccine.

Here is a glimpse of just some of the activities, outreach and work that took place in July.

MP SERRÉ IS WORKING HARD FOR NICKEL BELT – GREATER SUDBURY:

  • Coordination with constituency office staff to remain updated on the local concerns of Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury residents
  • MP Serré fulfills Parliamentary Secretary (PS) duties outlined by the Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Seamus O’Regan and his team
  • MP Serré continues to work collaboratively with his MP colleagues to address the pressing needs of the local and national not-for-profit sector
  • MP Serré recognized Canada Day by honouring the children senselessly lost through the residential school system as mass graves sites were found around the country 
  • MP Serré met with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization to discuss clean technology and energy
  • MP Serré recognized National Electric Vehicle week by visiting two charging locations (Chelmsford, South End,) in Nickel Belt- Greater Sudbury
  • MP Serré met with Norm Beaulieu from the Azilda Lion’s Club about the organization’s priorities and future plans
  • MP Serré met with Susan Church and Jason Bionda from Spectrum to discuss broadband funding opportunities to support rural communities
  • MP Serré participated in the Peruvian-Canadian Institute’s Canadian National Launch of Bicentennial of Peru Celebrations
  • MP Serré in his role Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources toured the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and made an important funding announcement regarding their facilities
  • MP Serré received his second COVID-19 dose at Aubin Pharmacy in Sturgeon Falls 

Funding opportunities announced that benefit our communities:

  • MP Serré announced $40 million for the Center for Excellence in Mining Innovation to help accelerate growth in Canada’s mining industry. Read the details here.
  • MP Serré announced $3.8 million to support youth jobs and help employers in Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Read the details here.
  • MP Serré announced $7.4 million to create an estimated 28 new affordable homes for individuals and families in the City of Greater Sudbury through the Cities Stream under expanded Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI). Read the details here. 
  • MP Serré announced over $120,000 for 3 projects in Capreol, Coniston and Killarney through the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF). Read the details here.
  • MP Serré announced $3.5 million for the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation to help mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 on the Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury’s local airport. Read full details here.

  • MP Serré shared that applications are being accepted until August 13, 2021, Local Food Infrastructure Fund intended to help address food insecurity and increasing the accessibility of healthy, nutritious and ideally local foods within the community. Find full details here. 
  • MP Serré shared that applications are currently being accepted until August 6th, 2021 through the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) to support small businesses as they adopt digital technologies such as digital storefronts and e-commerce platforms. Find full details here. 
  • MP Serré shared the launch of the application period for the Tourism Relief Fund to support businesses and organizations as they adapt their operations in line with COVID-19 restrictions while investing in products and services to ease future growth. Applications are being accepted until funds are exhausted. Find full details here.
  • On July 23rd the Summer Olympic Games opened in Tokyo and Canada has been rooting for all its athletes!

  • Her Excellency, Mary Simon, Canada’s newest Governor General was sworn in on July 26th 2021. Details can be found here.
