FedNor funding makes virtual Northern Ontario Pavilion a reality

NICKEL BELT – GREATER SUDBURY- Innovating and adopting new technology is crucial to business prosperity and growth, particularly in light of measures needed to restrict the spread of COVID-19. The agri-food sector has been hard hit by the pandemic that has impacted its supply chains, reduced available labour and restricted access to market. During this challenging period, the Government of Canada is continuing to work with agri-food businesses and organizations in Northern Ontario and across the country. Through its strategic support, it is encouraging them to embrace innovation to increase productivity, develop value-added products and expand into new markets.

Nickel Belt MP Marc G. Serré, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of $598,520 to enable Northern Ontario agri-food businesses and organizations to expand, reach new markets and create jobs.

Delivered by FedNor, this funding will allow Economic Partners-Sudbury East/West Nipissing Inc to support Northern Ontario’s presence at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair over a two-year period. This year, a five-day virtual experience will help showcase products and services while respecting public health guidelines to protect the health and safety of all Canadians. Approximately 30 Northern Ontario agri-food producers and organizations under the banner of the Northern Ontario Agri-food Pavilion, will participate in the first-ever Royal Agricultural Virtual Event scheduled to run November 10-14, 2020. The focus this year will be on boosting business growth through e-commerce.
