NICKEL BELT – GREATER SUDBURY – The Celebrate Canada program is now accepting calls for proposals for the 2021 intake period for eligible organizations until November 21, 2020. This program provides funding to community-based activities celebrating and promoting National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21^st, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24^th, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27^th and Canada Day on July 1^st. These celebrations enable Canadians to appreciate Canada’s cultural, ethnic, linguistic and geographic diversity.

Eligible organizations include:

• A Canadian not-for-profit organization such as a corporation, trust, cooperative, unincorporated association, etc.;
• A Canadian business corporation where projects are non-commercial in nature;
• A Canadian educational institution, Canadian municipal government or other municipal, provincial/territorial institution;
• An Indigenous Peoples’ institution or organization (Indigenous Peoples include Inuit, Métis, Status and Non-Status people); and,
• A local band council, local tribal council or other local Aboriginal government or organization (First Nations, Inuit or Métis).

For the 2021 season, organizations have the added flexibility of applying for a virtual activity. Priority will be given to celebratory events held on the designated day. Please note that the Celebrate Canada Program is highly competitive with limited funds.

• Celebrate Canada Days, which includes four celebrations, begin on June 21 and end with Canada Day, on July 1^st.
• June 21^st is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a celebration of the Peoples, cultures and languages of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis. It coincides with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Many Indigenous groups celebrate their culture and heritage.
• June 24^th is Saint-Jean-Baptiste—Fête nationale du Québec et de la Francophonie canadienne, which celebrates Francophone culture from coast to coast to coast.
• June 27^th is Canadian Multiculturalism Day, was designated on November 13, 2002. This day gives all Canadians the opportunity to celebrate and appreciate the contributions of various multicultural groups and communities to our society.
• July 1^st is Canada Day, where Canadians across the country and around the world show their pride in their history, culture, and achievements.
